Publications
The indexes produced by our projects are available for purchase as CDs. They have been transcribed from the baptisms, marriages and burials of the original parish registers and cover the whole county. All our CDs are professionally manufactured to a high quality which will last for many years of use. For details of all our CDs see the following - sorted either by Deanery or by Parish. Our transcribers are always working on further CDs. For details of these see here for Baptisms and here for Marriages

The Journal is packed with news, articles, letters, important little snippets of information and much more, many written by members from all over the world!
The society welcomes contributed articles on any subject, of interest to family or local historians, from anyone. Preferably but not essentially, these will have a strong link to the people or the county of Suffolk. Please quote your membership number.
Handwritten or typewritten material is perfectly acceptable although a text file produced in MS Word or similar is very helpful. Illustrations, whether black and white or colour, are particularly welcomed, these should be sent in as separate high-resolution files (300dpi or more) and NOT combined with the text.
If part of your article includes quotations/lists from a book then the permission of the author must be sought unless it is beyond the copyright date.

Corrections to indexes
Preparation of indexes
We endeavour to avoid errors or omissions in the preparation of data for our Suffolk 'Index' series of CD's:
• Suffolk Marriage Index
• Suffolk Burial Index
Our teams of volunteers, working with detailed guidance notes, transcribe, input, initial check and final check, using microfiche copies of the registers and original registers when necessary.
Main Principles of Transcription
- Names and dates are transcribed as entered in the register - it is left to the researcher to ponder on the various spellings of the family name.
- Occasional misspellings under 'Abode' and 'Occupation' are corrected, for example: Great Ratting becomes Gt Wratting whilst Taylor becomes Tailor.
- Blank parts of entries are generally left so in the transcript, or indicated [blank].
- Notes may be added, to assist the researcher, and placed in square brackets, for example:
- [?] denotes an unresolved query
- bn 2086[sic] shows a mistake in the register and not with the transcript
- [entry between 6 Sep 1846 & 4 Jan 1847] when the date is blank.
- Data is presented in a standard format with key words abbreviated and a full listing provided on each CD
Apologies
If, despite all our efforts to ensure the accuracy of our data, you should find any errors or omissions, which there may well be, the Society would welcome reports of these, which should be sent to the appropriate project co-ordinator:
Marriage Index Co-ordinator marriages@suffolkfhs.org.uk
Burial Index Co-ordinator burials@suffolkfhs.org.uk
Data Corrections
Following rechecking by an experienced transcriber, which may involve some delay whilst visiting the Suffolk Record Office, we will report back to the finder. Any corrections made to our database will be published in the following listings, which will be updated regularly.
