1939-1945 Suffolk Roll of Honour
The Roll lists all the names on town and village war memorials in Suffolk. Because the memorials give varying amounts of detail (sometimes only surname and initial) an attempt has been made to expand the entries to give a uniform amount of information:
Surname
Forename(s)
Rank
Number (where appropriate)
Decorations
Major unit
Sub-unit (eg battalion or ship)
Town/village
Where a name appears on more than one memorial it has been listed twice.
The information has been taken from the invaluable Commonwealth War Graves Debt of Honour (www.cwgc.com) where you can find more details such as age, place of burial or commemoration and (sometimes) next of kin. Many parishes have been listed on the excellent Roll of Honour site (www.roll-of-honour.com) where even more information can sometimes be found.
Please note: There are no 1939-1945 war memorials for Lowestoft and Oulton Broad. We have therefore taken all the names in the CWGC record with those places in the ‘Additional Information’ field. Because this field is not always filled in there will inevitably be names missing. There are also about 80 names (out of around 3,450) who we have not been able to identify.
